I didn't cover anything for The Tribune-Democrat, but I did attend North Star's match at Berlin.

Analysis: I didn't really expect this one to be close, and it wasn't. The big surprise was that North Star got a few of its wrestlers down a weight class. Each team got four pounds in the dual, so I'm sure that helped.
The first match featured two good kids, but not a lot of action. Braden Fochtman took advantage of a takedown late in the second period for the victory over Corey Fritch.
I'm not really sure why, but North Star weighed Strasiser in at 152 and bumped him away from Taylor Cahill. I'm not sure if there was a concern of giving up bonus points at 152 or not, but Strasiser is a solid defensively wrestler who can keep things close. Bryce Fochtman used two duck-unders for the victory.
I wasn't sure how the match at 195 was going to go. North Star's Kevin Horner got a first-period takedown but Toby Cahill got a second-period reversal pin, which really got the Mountaineers rolling.
North Star's Lenny Beeman avenged a WestPAC loss to Kyle Boyce, which I thought he might. Beeman seems to be wrestling better of late.
Somerset 45, Penn Cambria 21
170-Landon Lohr, S, dec. Jacob Driskel, 6-4.
182-Matt Wyland, PC, pinned Casey Pyle, 3:01.
195-Nick Holto, S, forfeit.

106-Nolan Link, PC, dec. Quinn Cole, 6-5.
113-Kat Luteri, S, forfeit.
120: Damian Jano, S, forfeit.
126-Zach Stevens, PC, dec. Garret Foster, 5-3.
132-Austin Hemminger, S, pinned Jacob Wilkinson, 2:28.
138-Jon Fabian, S, pinned Dane Myers, 1:58.
145-Sheldon Wagner, S, dec. Mike Eckenrode, 3-2.
152: Dominic Farabaugh, PC, pinned Bryce Jano, 2:53.
160: Austin Farabaugh, PC, dec. Daniel Talley, 9-5.
Records: Somerset 3-0; Penn Cambria 8-7.
Analysis: The final score of the dual meet might not have been that close, but it looks like there were some very interesting individual matches in this one. Start with the first match of the night. Jacob Driskel keeps flying under my radar somehow, but he is now 14-5 and his 6-4 loss to Landon Lohr shows he's not that far away from some of the top wrestlers in the area.
The next weight also surprised me a bit. I probably would have taken Jon Wilkinson to beat Logan Eller, but the Golden Eagle junior is off to a 5-0 start and might be putting things together this year.
The 106-pound match also looks like it was a good one, with Nolan Link edging Quinn Cole.
Maybe the biggest surprise of the dual for me came at 126, where Zach Stevens picked up a 5-3 win over Garret Foster. Foster has been up and down at times over his career, but I would have favored him over Stephens. Good win for Stephens.
Speaking of good wins, Sheldon Wagner picked up one over Mike Eckenrode at 145. Both are quality wrestlers, and, judging by the score alone, it looks like it was a good match.
This was also a good victory for the Golden Eagles. Despite its forfeit issues, Penn Cambria has been able to pile up eight wins already. Even without the forfeits, Somerset won dual on the mat.
Cambria Heights 45, Central Cambria 30
195-Dennis Link, CH, pinned Tom Howell, 1:23.
220-Anthony Mezzello, CH, pinned Brendon Smith, :43.
285-Aaron Gill, CH, pinned John Branick, 1:51.
106-Max Murin, CC, forfeit.
113-Chase Lazration, CC, forfeit.
120-Ian Ostrowski, CC, pinned Mark Zabinski, 1:55.
126-Joe Davis, CH, pinned Hunter Kish, 1:15.
132-Coltin Makin, CC, pinned Daniel Wilkie III, 1:23.
138-Tom Opdenhoff, CC, dec. Eric Kuskoski, 10-7.
145-Raymond Niebauer, CH, dec. Steven Pennington, 11-7.
152-Kerry Kirsch, CC, dec. Richard Legros, 3-2.
160-Levi Niebauer, CH, pinned Cordale Kline, 3:09.
170-Dalton Waksmunski, CH, pinned Bryce Thompson, 3:46.
182-William Hoover, CH, pinned Jake Myers, :26.
Records: Cambria Heights 3-1; Central Cambria 4-5.
Analysis: The big news here is the return of Joe Davis. At the start of the season I was told that he might not be able to wrestle during his senior year because of a leg injury he suffered in football season. That would have been a shame, not just for Cambria Heights and Davis, but for the area in general. Davis is a very good wrestler and I think most wrestling fans will be glad to see him back on the mat. The good thing about Davis returning now is that he has plenty of time to get ready for the postseason. The impact that he brings to the Highlanders' lineup is just a bonus.
It doesn't look like it took him long to get back into the swing of things, as he picked up a fall in 1:15.
The only other result that really jumps out at me is at 138 pounds, where Tom Opdenhoff only beat Eric Kuskoski 10-7. It's not always fair to judge a result from the score, and Opdenhoff was wrestling up a weight class, but coming off a technical-fall loss to Ryan Easter over the weekend, I would have thought the Red Devil wrestler would be itching to put up an impressive result.
Westmont Hilltop 70, Greater Johnstown 6
106-Braden Rosemas, WH, forfeit.
113-Devon Gilbert, WH, forfeit.
120-Logan Blackburn, WH, forfeit.
126-Drake Dorian, WH, maj. dec. Malik Walker, 13-4.
132-Dan Yost, WH, forfeit.
138-Nick Mical, WH, forfeit.
145-Lawrence Cernansky, WH, forfeit.
152-Mark Barbera, WH, pinned Mark Corson, 1:47.
160-Richard White, GJ, pinned Kyle Geibig, 2:35.
170-James Griffin, WH, dec. Kobe March, 8-6.
182-Colin Barron, WH, pinned Nate Litvin, 1:53.
195-Jake Buck, WH, forfeit.
220-Connor Imler, WH, forfeit.
285-Hussein Sbeitan, WH, dec. Noah Eckenrode, 3-0.
Records: Westmont Hilltop 2-0; Greater Johnstown 0-2.
Analysis: This one wasn't pretty. Greater Johnstown has some talent at the younger levels of its program, but the Trojans are really struggling with numbers right now. Despite being the only local school in Class AAA (for now), the Trojans gave up eight forfeits. The highlight match for me – and there aren't many to choose from – would have to be at 126, where Drake Dorian major decisioned Malik Walker. Walker has looked solid at times, so for Dorian to get a major is a nice win.

106-Noah Baughman, B, pinned Gage McCall, 2:42.
113-Jon Gabriel, B, tech fall Tanner McCall, 18-2.
120-Kyle Mehle, B, pinned Jake Keiber, 2:35.
126-Triston Law, FH, dec. Jake Warren, 5-0.
Records: Bedford 4-1; Forest Hills 1-3.
Analysis: A pretty severe thumping by Bedford, but the one big result that stands out to me went in favor of Forest Hills. Travis Templeton beating Toby Brett at 145 is a great win for the junior. It's arguably the biggest victory for him in a season that already includes triumphs over Penn Cambria's Mike Eckenrode, Somerset's Sheldon Wagner and Marion Center's Isaac Stewart. Triston Law's 5-0 victory over Jake Warren at 126 was a little closer than I would have guessed, but Warren is solid, so it's not too surprising, especially since it came at the end of such a lopsided dual meet.
