Third-Round Consolations (winners wrestle again tonight; losers go for seventh tomorow)
Chestnut Ridge's Tyler Dibert lost another tight one to South Fayette's Mike Fetchet, 3-2 in tiebreaker. I haven't had a chance to look it up, but I believe this was their third meeting, all of which went to overtime, with Fetchet winnning the last two. In this one, Fetchet got a second-period reversal but Dibert escaped to make it 2-1. A third-period escape tied it and neither wrestler could come up with a takedown there or in the sudden-victory period. Fetchet escaped in the first half of the tiebreaker and got legs in when he was on top. Dibert almost came up with a reversal at the end. It was close, but in my estimation, the ref got it right.
Ligonier Valley's Justin Patrick pinned Redbank Valley's Willis Gruver in 33 seconds. Patrick locked up a low-leg cradle and got the quick fall. Patrick had his knee wrapped for the match and was limping noticeably when he left the mat.
Forest Hills' Triston Law advances to consi semifinals with 5-0 victory over Cameron Newman at 106. Law is now guaranteed a top-six finish while Bishop McDevitt's Tyshawn White, who teched him in opening round, can't finish higher than seventh. Nice way to bounce back for the sophomore, who will wrestle Palisades' Jacob Wasser later tonight. Wasser beat Newman 10-4 in opening round.
Rumor has it that today's Tristan Law's birthday-state place winner is a pretty good birthday present!
