Chestnut Ridge is getting plenty of love in projections for the PIAA Class AA Dual-Meet Championships, which officially begin Thursday in Hershey.
Jeff Upson of PA Power Wrestling has the Lions ranked fifth in the state, but predicts thtat coach Greg Lazor's team will reach the final, thanks in part to a bracket that doesn't include No. 1 Brookville, No. 2 Reynolds or No. 3 Boiling Springs. Upson has Ridge falling to Reynolds in the championship.
Mark Dugan also likes the Lions. In his Off the Mat rankings, as he has Chestnut Ridge finishing second to Boiling Springs in the team tournament.
The Lions don't even know who they will be facing in the first round on Thursday, as the Huntingdon-Northern Lebanon preliminary-round dual scheduled for Monday night was postponed to Tuesday. PA Power has the Bearcats at No. 8 - one spot behind District 6 winner West Branch, which beat Huntingdon on criteria in the championship match on Saturday - while Dugan also has coach Jon Mykut's squad just behind Jason Bainey's, but at No. 9.
Oddly enough, Upson has Huntingdon losing to Northern Lebanon in the preliminary round. He has Chestnut Ridge beating Northern Lebanon, Burrell and Wyalusing Valley to reach the finals.
Upson predicts West Branch to beat District 1 champion Upper Moreland before falling to Reynolds in the quarterfinal round. He has the Warriors winning a consolation match against Upper Moreland before bowing out to Brookville.
