It is an individual tournament, but I listed the teams competing, links to their NWCA page, team records and some of their top wrestlers, which I got from a combination of the NWCA page and Tom Elling's PA Wrestling Handbook:
Notes: The Mountaineers finished second in this tournament last year to host Redbank Valley. They also finished second at the Sheetz Holiday Classic earlier this month. Anything less than a top-3 finish here would be disappointing and they really should challenge for the title. UPDATE: I just got word that 220-pounder Stew Trulick is sick and won't wrestle. That certainly will hurt the Mountaineers chances.
152-Taylor Cahill (10-1, Southwest Regional 4th last season at 152)
145-Braden Fochtman (12-2, Southwest Regional 4th last season at 138)
160-Bryce Fochtman (9-2, Southwest Regional 4th last season at 160)
126-Joe Swank (6-1, District 5 runner-up at 120 last year)
Notes: Two duals with almost exactly the same results were entered, so I am assuming that one was wrong and it was re-entered. I took a loss off of the dual record and a win off of each wrestler. ... Brashear didn't have any wrestlers with a winning record coming back this year. The fact that they're a a couple undefeated at this point after struggling last year tells me that they either got a lot better or have faced weak competition so far.
126-Malik Spencer (3-0, freshman)
220-Cody Wagner (3-0, 4-10 last season)
182-Joshua Morrissey (2-0, 4-13 last season)
Notes: It's hard to believe Clarion hasn't opened the season yet, but that's what the NWCA page shows. A dual was scheduled with Keystone for Dec. 18, but no result is entered.
N/A-Zach Sintobin (0-0, District 9 4th as freshman at 195 last season)
N/A-Jacob Troutman (0-0, 20-10 at 138 last season)
N/A-Riley Gunter (0-0, 20-14 at 126 last season)
Notes: There are only 11 wrestlers on the roster and only eight have a record listed. The two below are the only ones with more than one win this year.
126-Nick Baughman (6-0, 19-15 at 113 last season)
145-Chad Rogers (4-1, 17-16 at 132 last season)
182-Zach Stiglitz (0-1, 20-15 at 170 last season)
120-Matthew Wheeler (7-0, Northwestern regional 3rd last year at 120)
152-Sebastian Rinehardt (6-1, District 9 6th last year at 152)
126-Bruce Copeland (5-2, 22-13 last year)
Notes: Should be one of the top three teams here, along with Berlin and Redbank Valley. ... Kaleb Young might be best wrestler in tournament.
138-Kaleb Young (6-0, returning Northwest AAA champion at 126)
132-Joel Bowers (5-0, returning Northwest AAA third at 120)
152-Perry Arrington (6-1)
120-Elijah Lambiotte (4-2).
Notes: I would think they would be one of top teams, but lost to Sharon in dual. ... Wrestled at King of Mountain, so don't be fooled by multiple losses for top guys. ... Not sure if Carillo will be wrestling or not, since he has not yet.
120-Willie Gruver (5-3, returning PIAA 7th at 113)
220-Cal Haines (3-2, returning District 9 champ at 220)
152-Mitch Blose (1-0, returning District 9 runner-up at 126)
285-Ben Carillo (0-0, returning District 9 4th)
Notes: Traditionally has a few very good kids. Didn't have much returning from last year, but off to a good start with a number of unbeaten wrestlers and a dual-meet win over Redbank Valley.
182-Beau Dignall (3-0, 23-12 last year)
160-Cory Buchanan (3-0, 17-11 last year)
138-Jason Clark (3-0, 17-11 last year)
106-Jules Hicklin (3-0, freshman)
Notes: This team is a complete wild card. I've never even heard of the Sheffield. They had eight duals scheduled prior to this tournament but only entered results for a 41-36 win over Coudersport. My experience is that teams that don't enter results typically haven't done very well. ... They have four 20-match winners back from last year, but only one - Ricky Prosen - was a district placewinner, which tells me they wrestled a really weak schedule.
145-Ricky Prosen (1-0, District 9 4th at 120 last year)
152-Doug Grubbs (1-0, 22-7 last year)
126-Tanner Barr (1-0, 22-8 at 106 last year)
132-Kyle Holden (1-0, 20-10 last year)
Notes: Another one that is hard to gauge, given they only have one dual entered and no results from the Hickory tournament.
285-Dylan Dinch (1-0, District 9 runner-up last year)
138-Adam Shunk (0-1, 18-10 last year)
145-Gavin Kroesen (5-1, returning District 10 3rd at 132)
285-Jeffery Spencer (4-1, 6-9 last year)
Notes: Lost to Penn Cambria and beat Northern Cambria in dual. Used to participate in Richland Duals and usually only had a handful of guys on team. Have almost 20 on team this year. Haven't faced good competition.
182-Brendon Glover (6-1, 25-9 last year)
160-Brian Brown (6-1, 17-11 last year)
