Thursday night recap

There were only two local matches last night and The Tribune-Democrat covered both of them.
I went to Bedford, where the Bisons crushed Westmont Hilltop in a match that will go a long way in determining the LHAC champion. I really was surprised at how thorough the domination was. I was sure Bedford would build a lead in the lower weights, but I thought Westmont would make up some ground in the upper weights. Ryan Burnheimer got a forfeit and Josh Duplin a pin, but Westmont only outscored Bedford 12-10 in the final four weights, as Mike Brett picked up a fall and Jacob Krupa added a major.
But maybe the most impressive thing about the Bisons is how often they manage to avoid giving up bonus points in matches where they are heavy underdogs. Ian Helsel seemed like the perfect candidate to do that in his 145-pound match with Clark, but the Bedford wrestler managed to thwart Helsel's attacks enough to keep it a regular decision at 8-3. To a certain extent, Caleb Grimes did the same at 132. Westmont desperately needed a fall from Mike Walsh, but Grimes limited the damage to a major. Momentum-wise, that's a win for Bedford.
Overall, it was a very impressive showing by a Bedford team that was facing some questions after a closer-than-expected match with North Star in its opener.

Milestone moment
In the other match, Forest Hills' R.J. Brydon picked up his 100th career win as Forest Hills beat Greater Johnstown 48-36.
Forest Hills has owned this series, but it looked like Johnstown was primed for a victory over the Rangers. At least until it came out that the Trojans would be without five starters due to injuries or academic issues.
The Rangers needed just 6:17 of mat time to build a 36-0 lead thanks to pins by Kenny Corle, Brydon, Warren Gramling, Cody Law and Jeff Leach as well as a forfeit victory by Zach Pinkas.
It didn't take long for Brydon to become the second local wrestler to join the Century Club this season. In the second match of the night, Brydon pinned Johnstown's William Leeth in 1:56 to join Westmont Hilltop's Ryan Burnheimer as local wrestlers to notch their 100th win this season. North Star's Nick Roberts and Westmont's Josh Duplin also are active members of the club, having hit the mark during their junior seasons.
