Wednesday night recap

Conemaugh Township's Andrew Gowarty looks to escape
from Berlin's Andre Dauphinais on Wednesday night.

The balance of power might have already shifted in the WestPAC. Defending champ Berlin was beaten by Conemaugh Township on Wednesday night. The Indians won the first two matches - both of which could have gone either way - by scoring in the third period, then did what they were supposed to do the rest of the way for the victory.
Berlin was missing starters Eric Darr and Stew Trulick, but it's going to be difficult to repeat as conference champ after this loss.
I covered it for The Tribune-Democrat, so you can check out my full story there. The box is below.

UNITED HS: 48, Ligonier Valley HS: 28

And my conference ranking of Ligonier Valley ahead of United doesn't look so good now. I know Ligonier Valley got banged up at the Conemaugh Township tournament, and Joey Puschnigg wasn't in the lineup tonight, but this was pretty lopsided in favor of United.

Somerset 51, Cambria Heights 27
Back-to-back beatings for Cambria Heights. Tough for any local team to start out with Westmont Hilltop and Somerset on back-to-back nights though. Some interesting matches here, though only two went six minutes. Things that caught my eye: CH freshman Levi Niebauer beating returning regional qualifier Mike Laue; Somerset freshman Jon Fabian knocking off Brad Thomas; Somerset's Jacob Nickelson pinning Tyler Crawford; and CH's Jake Beach pinning Patrick Blough.
106-Garret Foster, S, pinned Michael Dautlick.
113-Ryan Dupas, CH, pinned Damian Jano.
120-Sheldon Wagner, S, pinned Jeff Brahi.
126-Joe Davis, CH, pinned Tyler Walker.
132-Jon Fabian, S, dec. Brad Thomas, 9-4.
138-Levi Niebauer, CH, dec. Mike Laue, 7-6.
145-Landon Lohr, S, pinned Travis Yahner.
152-Josh Darr, S, pinned Richard Legros.
160-Michael Sutton, S, pinned Dalton Waksmunski.
170-Ross Inzana, CH, pinned Logan Eller.
182-Jacob Nickelson, S, pinned Tyler Crawford.
195-Jake Beach, CH, pinned Patrick Blough.
220-Jon Baer, S, forfeit.
285-Jake Hayman, S, forfeit.

Blogger's note: Reader Travis correctly pointed out that the box had Laue beating Niebauer while the paragraph above had Niebauer winning. The box has since been changed to show that Niebauer won. There was another mistake I just noticed. Somerset freshman Jon Fabian actually beat Brad Thomas. That has also been corrected. I copy and paste results when possible, but Somerset's come in a different format than others and it's a little confusing. Sorry for the mistakes.

  1. You say in the article that laue Lost but in the box score you have him winning.
