Tuesday night recap

I didn't make it to a match last night and didn't get much cooperation from coaches in terms of getting results. Here are the results that were submitted to me or The Tribune-Democrat.

Bedford 63, Central Cambria 17126–Toby Brett, B, pinned Coltin Makin 1:26.
132–Ben Rager, CC, tech. fall Caleb Grimes 18-3, 4:39.
138–Zach Dudek, B, pinned Tyler Kaminsky :27.
145–Devin Clark, B, dec. Tanner Bilonick 2-1.
52–Tanner Williams, B, pinned Brad Zeman 1:36.
160–Anthony Risalti, CC, pinned Josiah Koontz 5:50.
170–Cody Yingling, B, pinned Luke Kozorosky 2:24.
182–Dylan Evans, B, pinned Cody Slebodnick 2:37.
195–Mike Brett, B, pinned Calvin Crow 1:02.
220–Jacob Krupa, B, pinned Luke Zearing 3:54.
285–Evan Sikora, CC, pinned Justin Easter 4:07.
106–Jake Warren, B, forfeit.
113–Ryan Easter, B, pinned Brad Taylor 2:56.
120–Garrett Thomas, B, pinned Cameron Long 1:15.
Junior varsity: Bedford 12, Central Cambria 0.
Records: Bedford 3-0; Central Cambria 3-3.

No big surprises here. Central Cambria's studs came through, Bedford just about everything else.

Richland 57, Greater Johnstown 22
120-Justin Cinko, R, pinned Dustin Stephens, :47.
126-Marcus McKool, R, forfeit.
132-Eric Seth, R, pinned Rodney Hall, 3:04.
138-Malcolm Harris, GJ, pinned Nick Naglic, :20.
145-William Leeth, GJ, maj. dec. Dan Devan, 11-2.
152-Mac Long, R, pinned Jesaiah Wilson, 1:01
160-Nico Pecora, R, pinned Conan Stiffler, :38
170-Elizah Metzgar, R, pinned Dylan Walker, :17
182-Mike Merriman, R, forfeit
195-Kawan Butcher, GJ, pinned Killion Snopko, 3:58.
220-John Rizzo, R, pinned Richard White, :38
285-Matt Moose, R, pinned Jerimiah Mitchell, 1:09
106-Adam George, R, pinned Madison Lima-Tanaka, 2:57.
113-Stephen Rouser, R, dec. Malik Walker, 7-3.

A couple of interesting results here. Malcolm Harris pinning Nick Naglic in 20 seconds was a shock. Harris is good, no doubt, but Naglic has been wrestling well this season. Also, a good win for William Leeth, with a major decision of Dan Devan. Richland took care of business in most of the others.

Somerset 64, Penn Cambria 4
106-Garret Foster, S, forfeit.
113-Damian Jano, S, pinned Nathan Gates, 1:18.
120-Sheldon Wagner, S, pinned Zach Rhone-Hatch, 1:57.
126-Tyler Walker, S, forfeit.
132-Jon Fabian, S, dec. Michael Eckenrode, 4-0.
138-Nick Szala, PC, maj. dec. Mike Laue, 19-5.
145-Landon Lohr, S, pinned Matt Wyland, 3:22.
152-Josh Darr, S, forfeit.
160-Michael Sutton, S, forfeit.
170-No match.
182-Jacob Nickelson, S, pinned Henry Schlosser, :16.
195-Jon Baer, S, maj. dec. Nick Geisbrecht, 10-1.
220-Patrick Blough, S, pinned Jonathan Wilkinson, :48.
285-Jake Hayman, S, dec. Seth McLendon, PC, 2-1.

No surprises here. Somerset is one of the best teams in the area and performed like it. Penn Cambria's best wrestler performed like it, as Nick Szala's major over Mike Laue is impressive.

I was a little surprised that Logan Blackburn majored Tristan Law, who looked good against Sheetz Holiday Tournament Outstanding Wrestler Justin Patrick on Saturday.

Here is a link to the Daily American's coverage of the Meyersdale's 33-26 victory at Berlin Brothersvalley on Tuesday night. I thought this would be a tight match, but still was a bit surprised by the Red Raiders' victory, especially given how well the Mountaineers wrestled at the Sheetz Holiday Classic last weekend. Meyersdale got a huge victory from Gavin Berkley, who beat Trace Heffner 4-1, in the opening match and rolled from there. Just like in Berlin's opening loss to Conemaugh Township, the first two matches proved to be key. Ex-Mountaineer Billy Dunbar pinned former teammate Ben Miller in the second match of the night.

The other big match of the night had Chestnut Ridge beating Claysburg-Kimmel 46-19. The Altoona Mirror has a story on that match here. Big win by the Lions, who face Bedford in another battle of unbeatens on Thursday night. Looks like the freshmen have turned the tide quickly for Chestnut Ridge.
The Mirror also has a roundup that includes Portage's 40-39 victory over Central here.

  1. Are you going to do a preview of the Bedford vs Bedford match? It's always one of the biggest matches of the year of district 5.

  2. I'll see what I can do Travis. I've been sick the past couple of days and haven't had the energy to do much, but I'll do my best. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make to the match or not.
