285-Austin Buttry, CR, pinned Evan
Sokira, 3:20.
106-Dustin Ickes, CR, forfeit.
113-Brad Taylor, CC, pinned Sam Shank,
1:35.
120-Derrick Claar, CR, dec. Cameron
Long, 4-1.
126-Zach Etterman, CR, pinned Colton
Makin, :56.
132-Ben Rager, CC, pinned Colby
Hillegass, 1:13.
138-Shane Pfaunmiller, CR, pinned
Cordale Kline, 1:21.
145-Kyle Winegardner, CR, pinned Kevin
Bednar, 1:47.
Analysis: Not much surprising here. Ben Rager and Tony Risaliti are the stalwarts for Central Cambria, but sophomore Brad Taylor is proving himself to be a capable 113-pounder. I saw the Lions as the favorites in virtually every other weight and they didn't disappoint. Heavyweight Austin Buttry was locked in a scoreless match with Evan Sokira before coming up with a second-period fall.
195-Andrew Lenhart, M, forfeit.
220-Ty Smith, M, pinned Sam Michick, 4:10.
285-Matt Mara, FH, forfeit.
106-Triston Law, FH, forfeit.
113-Jake Keiper, FH, pinned Brady McKenzie, 3:32.
120-Collin Day, M, forfeit.
126-Tanner Hetrick, M, forfeit.
132-Stephen McKenzie, M, forfeit.
138-Seth Deist, M, dec. Ean Bopp, 6-2.
145-R.J. Brydon, FH, pinned Drew Yoder, 1:37.
152-Warren Gramling, FH, pinned David Stanton, 4:31.
160-Billy Dunbar, M, pinned Jeff Leach, 1:34.
170-Gavin Berkley, M, dec. Zach Pinkas, 6-2.
Records: Meyersdale 9-1. Forest Hills 1-4.
Analysis: The biggest surprise was when I looked at the NWCA email that is automatically generated to me and it said Forest Hills 48, Meyersdale 30. I thought "WHAT? Really? Forest Hills beat Meyersdale?" Then I added up the scores. Nope. Meyersdale did indeed get the victory.
Only one match really jumped out at me: Gavin Berkley's 6-2 victory over Zach Pinkas at 170 pounds. That's a good win for Berkley for a couple of reasons. The first, of course, being that Pinkas is a solid wrestler coming off a third-place finish at Southmoreland. The second is that Berkley was wrestling up a weight class when he beat Pinkas.
The Daily American has a brief on the dual here, and Chadd Sines says it's Berkley's best match of the year.
Outside of that, no big surprises. Other than R.J. Brydon getting a pin for Forest Hills, most of the dual's best wrestlers got forfeits (Triston Law, Collin Day, Tanner Hetrick, Stephen McKenzie, Andrew Lenhart).
113–Joe Pakstis, S, pinned Noah Tomallo, 1:33
120–Mike Manges, S, forfeit
126–Nolan Paronish, NC, pinned Jonathan Reynolds, 2:28
132–Tyler Gaston, NC, forfeit
138–Gus Yahner, NC, maj. dec. Adam Hutzell, 9-1
145–Casey Brown, NC, maj. dec. James Kostick, 14-5
152–John Krumenacker, NC, forfeit
160–James Otten, S, pinned Damian Weakland, :54
170–Brad Godin, S, pinned Jacob Schlereth, 1:42
182–Phil Aikey, S, pinned Joey Frontino, 5:50
195–No match
220–No match
285–No match
Analysis: Not much insight here. I know James Otten is good, and he won. I can see only seven matches were wrestled, but considering neither coach has given me any results this season, I don't know much about either team. There were no close matches. All in all, looks like it should have been over less than a half an hour.
Note: Times for falls are courtesy of the Daily American.
120-Nick Lutz, P, dec. Warren Lowther, 8-1.
126-Scott Marsh, U, forfeit.
132-Chase Fox, P, forfeit.
138-Caleb Kephart, P, pinned Troy Matson.
145-Tyler Mack, U, pinned Shane Baker.
152-Paul Husar, P, pinned Thomas Rager.
160-Miles Stahl, U, dec. Donny Watters, 9-2.
170-John Blankenship, U, pinned Kyle Davis.
182-Charles Hropovich, U, pinned Randy Wisen.
195-Tyler Oliver, U, pinned Cameron Neel.
220-Josh Bealonis, U, dec. Tyler Strong, 4-3.
285-Ben Mountan, U, forfeit.
Analysis: Again, these are two teams that I haven't seen much, if any, of this season and their coaches haven't sent me any results. I managed to find these on the NWCA site, but no times were posted for falls.
From the box score, I don't see any major surprises. John Blankenship, Ben Mountan and Tyler Mack are the biggest names for the Lions, so their wins were expected.
Chase Fox is, arguably Portage's best wrestler, but he got a forfeit.
