UPDATED Thursday Night Recap 1/26/2012

Didn't get to see any wrestling on Thursday, but there were some interesting results, including a HUGE UPSET in the Forest Hills-Penn Cambria match, which I initially had wrong.

Forest Hills 42, Penn Cambria 30
106-No match.
113-Triston Law, FH, pinned Nathan Gates, 1:22.
120-Jake Keiper, FH, forfeit.
126-Zach Rhone-Hatch, PC, forfeit.
132-Kenny Corle, FH, pinned Michael Eckenrode, 1:39.
138-Nick Szala, PC, pinned Ean Bopp, 1:25.
145-R.J. Brydon, FH, pinned Matt Wyland, 3:20.
152-Jon Stoy, PC, pinned Warren Gramling, 2:59.
160-Cody Law, FH, pinned Henry Spangler, :42.
170-Jeff Leach, FH, pinned forfeit.
182-Zack Pinkas, FH, maj. dec. Henry Schlosser, 11-4.
195-Sam Michuk, FH, forfeit.
220-Johnathan Wilkinson, PC, forfeit.
285-Seth McLendon, PC, dec. Matt Marra, FH, 12-5.

Analysis: Big upset here - one so big I initially thought maybe Penn Cambria's NWCA page was wrong. Henry Scholosser beat Zack Pinkas 11-4 at 182 pounds. Pinkas is 20-4 and 17th in the latest edition of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings while Schlosser is 12-14. Not only did Schlosser win, but he did it convincingly. I'd rank this as possibly the biggest upset of the season so far. Other than that, the one thing that jumps out at me is that there were a lot of good kids that just didn't get matched up. Look at the list of winners from 132 to 160: Kenny Corle, Nick Szala, R.J. Brydon, Jon Stoy and Cody Law. That's an impressive group. Unfortunately, none of them wrestled each other.

Greater Johnstown 38, Central Cambria 33
182-Gervon Simon, GJ, pinned Calvin Grow, 1:25.
195-Kawan Butcher, GJ, pinned Jordan O’Farrell, 1:10.
220-Jeremiah Mitchell, GJ, dec. Luke Zearing, 6-3.
285-Evan Sokira, CC, pinned Richard White, 1:09.
106-Madison Lima-Tanaka, GJ, forfeit.
113-Brad Taylor, CC, forfeit.
120-Cameron Long, CC, pinned Malik Walker, 1:42.
126-Coltin Makin, CC, dec. Dustin Stephens, 7-6.
132-Ben Rager, CC, pinned Rodney Hall, 1:00.
138-Malcolm Harris, GJ, pinned Tyler Karlinsey, 2:38.
145-William Leeth, GJ, maj. dec. Cordale Kline, 15-3.
152-Evan Smith, GJ, maj. dec. Tanner Bilonick, 13-3.
160-Tony Risaliti, CC, pinned Dylan Walters, :36.
170-Devine Edwards, GJ, dec. Cody Slebodnick, 6-2.
Records: Greater Johnstown 13-13; Central Cambria 7-17.

Analysis: Bill Bassett has a nice team in Greater Johnstown that doesn't get much attention. Gervon Simon and Malcolm Harris are two of the better wrestlers in the area. I'm actually a little surprised this was as close as it was. Central Cambria got on a nice run in the low- to middleweights to keep the Red Devils in the match.

Portage 59, Northern Cambria 9
113-Nick Lutz, P, tech. fall Noah Tomallo, 16-1 (6:00).
120-No match.
126-Nolan Paronish, NC, forfeit.
132-Chase Fox, P, pinned Tyler Gaston, 2:31.
138-Gus Yahner, NC, dec. Caleb Kephart, 4-3.
145-Shane Baker, P, pinned Casey Brown, 5:39.
152-Paul Husar, P, pinned John Krumenacker, :28.
160-Donny Watters, P, pinned Cody Wissinger, :55.
170-Kyle Davis, P, forfeit.
182-Randy Wisen, P, pinned Joey Frontino, 1:39.
195-Cameron Neel, P, forfeit.
220-Tyler Strong, P, forfeit.
285-Bryce Davis, P, forfeit.
106-No match.

Analysis: Big win for the Mustangs. I still haven't gotten to see much of them, but I haven been hearing about how much improved they are, and the results are beginning to show it. I'm looking forward to the first WestPAC tournament and how wrestlers like Chase Fox fare.
United 42, Shade 27
We didn't get a report from this match, which is a shame because Shade's Wolf Otten was in a position to get his 100th win, which would make him the first Panther (even though he attends Windber) to reach the milestone. Unless he bumped up to 160 pounds, he likely would have gotten it via forfeit.

1 comment:

  1. Wolf Otten did bump up and wrestled 160. He got a fall in the third period, I believe.
