Analysis: Even with the five forfeits, there were some very interesting matches. Mike Laue was able to overcome a first-period headlock to beat Taylor Cahill in the opener and Tanner Cahill was able to neutralize Landon Lohr's ability from his feet in a 6-1 victory. Cory Berchick was the star of the night, not just because he became the school's all-time leader in victories, but because of the way he performed against Josh Darr. Facing that kind of pressure, with everyone waiting for him to break the record, it could have been difficult for Berchick to be at his best against a defending District 5 champion, but Berchick was in control from the outset. He had a takedown and a set of backpoints before pinning Darr with a windup cradle. Very impressive performance indeed.

Analysis: Obviously a very lopsided team score, but still some interesting things here. The first that jumps out at me is Bryce Focthman's overtime victory over Chris Eichelberger at 145 pounds. It was just the fourth loss of the season for Eichelberger, whose other defeats came to Northern Bedford's Matt Sollenberger, Tyrone's Dylan Weston and Tri-Valley's Blake Bowman. Fochtman has wrestled some top-notch competition while moving anywhere from 145 to 160 in the lineup, which helps explain his 22-13 record. But that experience should prove beneficial in the postseason and in the years to come for the Berlin freshman. The other result that caught my eye was Ejai Rock's 11-9 victory over Blake Miller at 138 pounds. Miller's wide-open style makes him very unpredictable, but I was a little surprised by his loss to Rock, who is 11-10 on the season.

Analysis: Altoona has five wrestlers with 20-plus wins and three of them (D.J. Hollingshead, T.J. Brandt and Markief Knode) came up with falls. But it's the Westmont victories against the other two that interest me most. Mike Walsh came up with a 10-1 major decision of Connor Lesniak, who was 24-11, at 145 pounds. Perhaps more impressive was Eric Kowalewski's 3-2 overtime decision of Mante Barnes at 195 pounds. Barnes came into the match with a 21-3 mark. The other interesting side note to this match was that Westmont honored coach Matt Beaujon, who picked up his 100th career victory last week against Northern Cambria. Beaujon rebuffed Westmont's efforts to get media coverage of it, but considering how the Hilltoppers have performed in the seven years since Beaujon succeeded his brother Fran, it's definitely worth noting.

Analysis: I don't mean to belabor the point, but this would have been infinitely more interesting if Josh Patrick wasn't just returning from an elbow injury and had the opportunity to wrestle Jason Nolf at 120 pounds. That also brings up an interesting question that I don't have an answer to: With Kittanning forfeiting 113, why not weigh Patrick in there and see if he could pick up a forfeit? The last I spoke with him, he said that making 115 for the postseson wouldn't be a problem, even if he couldn't get on the mats for nearly two months. As far as the wrestlers that were there, the result that I immediately noticed was Daniel Croyle's 14-12 victory over Nate Robb at 126 pounds. Robb is 22nd in the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings with a 24-7 record, base mainly on what he's done in past years. Croyle, meanwhile, has flown under the radar while compiling a 21-11 mark.

Analysis: I haven't been able to verify it, but I believe this marks the first time that Portage has beaten its neighbor to the north in at least a decade. That speaks to how rough of a year it has been for the Panthers, but also how the Mustangs have improved under coach Adam Whetstone. Portage's NWCA site lists nine wrestlers with records of .500 or better.
The best match here was probably Jon Stoy's 8-6 decision over Donny Watters at 160 pounds, although Seth McLendon's 2-0 victory over Tyler Strong at 220 pounds also looks like a good one.
Huntingdon 55, Central Cambria 23 - I didn't get a report on this and the NWCA site is currently down, so I can't get full results. The Altoona Mirror does have a box score on it here.
Meyersdale 61, Shade 12 - I didn't get a report on this and the NWCA site is currently down, so I can't get full results. The Daily American does have a box score on it here.
