District 6 Class AA Tournament pairings

The pairings are out for the District 6 Class AA Tournament, which begins Friday morning in Altoona.
The full text results are posted below. Hopefully the brackets will be readable in this format. If not click CTRL + to enlarge the font (CTRL - reduces it) or just click on the District 6 Wrestling site to see them.
I've included and analysis of each bracket.

106
Justin Patrick is definitely the favorite, but the potential semifinal match between Triston Law and Josh Brown should be a good one. They met in the season-opening tournament at Claysburg, with Law prevailing 9-8. Brown beat Patrick in the semis last season. The final regional qualifier spot should come down to a battle between fourth-seeded Sage Moist, fifth-seeded Wyatt Sankey and sixth-seeded Adam George.

113
Josh Patrick is the most accomplished wrestler here, but there are questions surrounding how good of shape he'll be in. He hasn't wrestled a live match in two months. Of course, if he can come up with some quick falls, his wind shouldn't be a problem early on. Facing Ryan Dupas in the finals could be probelmatic, however. Juniata's Hunter Harris is the third seed but lost in overtime to fourth-seeded Abe Albright of West Branch in the D6 duals. Albright also has split a pair of matches with fifth-seeded Nathan Sell of Claysburg-Kimmel this season, so the battle to go to regionals should be interesting.

120
Top-seeded Joe Davis of Cambria Heights sports an impressive 22-1 record, but he hasn't gotten much respect in the rankings. The latest edition of Off the Mat Rankings has him 15th - one spot below third-seeded Jared Woomer of Bellwood-Antis. Of course, Woomer can play the no-respect card as well, as he's seeded behind West Branch's Dustin Fisch, whom he beat 8-0 back in January.  Fisch also has a pair of losses to fourth-seeded Dylan Knable of Mount Union this season and one to sixth-seeded Devon Green of Huntingdon, so he's far from a lock to make it to Johnstown.
126
I think Ben Rager is head and shoulders above the rest of the weight here and should be in line for another district title after winning at 125 last season. Mount Union's Ryan Wilson lost both his matches at the state duals after winning his first 29, and the bottom half of the bracket could provide some intrigue. The second-round match between Northern Cambria's Nolan Paronish and Ligonier Valley's Daniel Croyle could be interesting, and sixth-seeded Brad Thomas of Cambria Heights - a third-place finisher at 119 last season - could make some noise after a rough start to the season.
132
James Dodson of Claysburg-Kimmel has already beaten at least seven of the wrestlers in the weight and is certainly the favorite to repeat after winning the 119-pound title last season. The bracket is top-heavy, with Richland's Nick Naglic - the fifth seed who owns a win over second-seeded J.P. Hayles of West Branch - and fourth-seeded Kenny Corle of Forest Hills, who I think could have made the finals on the other side of the bracket. Hayles does have a victory over Southern Huntingdon's Brennon Shields, who is the third seed.
138
Claysburg will look to make it back-to-back titles here courtesy of unbeaten Ty Dively, though it's far from a certainty with this weight class. Dively owns a pair of victories over second-seeded Nick Szala, which are the Penn Cambria wrestler's only losses on the season. Meanwhile, Szala is responsible for one of third-seeded Noah Tarr's two losses on the season. Fourth-seeded Trevor Helsley of Bellwood-Antis also has just two losses on the season - one of which came at Szala's hands. Helsley is 16th in the Off the Mat Rankings, with Dively, Szala and Tarr all ahead of him on the list. If those four live up to their seeds, Brandon Rowles, a district runner-up last season, won't even make it out this time.
145
Juniata's Zach Beitz is No. 1 in both the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings and Off the Mat, but he's seeded second in this tournament to Forest Hills' R.J. Brydon. Beitz won this weight last year on his way to a third-place finish in Hershey; Brydon won it at 140 and took seventh at states. Brydon's undefeated this year despite suffering a thumb injury early in the season. Tyrone's Dylan Weston is a solid third seed while Penns Valley's Seth Decker will be the favorite for the final spot at regionals.
152
Blairsville's Drew Doak is the top seed after an impressive freshman season, but he was beaten by second-seeded Josh Bafia of Huntingdon at the Thomas Tournament. He bounced back from that early loss to place third at the tournament while Bafia dropped his next two and did not place. Bafia has split a pair of matches with seventh-seeded Jon Stoy of Penn Cambria, so there's the potential for an upset in the quarters. As evidenced by Stoy's No. 7 seed, there's enough depth in the weight to add some intrigue. Third-seeded D.J. Wunder of Tyrone spent the season at 160, as did fifth-seeded Phil Crook of Marion Center while fourth-seeded Luke Slippey of West Branch is up a weight after wrestling 145.
160
This is the weight to watch, if the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings are to be believed. Forest Hills' Cody Law has been No. 1 for much of the season while Central Cambria's Tony Risaliti has been No. 2. Risaliti won the 152-pound title a year ago, but has been beaten twice by Law - his frequent club workout partner - this season. Off the Mat Rankings has Law third and Risaliti sixth. Still should be a fun final to watch, assuming they both get there. I expect Central's Jarron Knisely to challenge for the third spot despite his fifth seed while third-seeded Cory Kylor of Mount Union should also be in the mix.
170
Although 160 gets much of the attention because of its two headliners, this is actually a much deeper weight. Forest Hills' Zack Pinkas has been in the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings for most of the season, yet he'll need to pull an upset just to get to regionals. Cambria Heights' Ross Inzana is the top seed thanks in part to his victory over Chestnut Ridge's Tyler Dibert at the Thomas Tournament, but second-seeded John Blankenship of United - who is back at 170 after briefly dropping to 160 - has a victory over Inzana.  Blankenship, the 160-pound champ last year, is 26-0 this season. Third-seeded Matt Swartz of Penns Valley is 27-2 while fourth-seeded Tyler Ickes has flown under the radar despite a 24-1 record.
182
I'm a bit out of  my element here, as five of the top six wrestlers are from outside of my coverage area. Top-seeded Scott Thompson of Blairsville is just a freshman and has a win over No. 2 Jared Beckwith of Tyrone. Moshannon Valley's Dylan Ludwig is the third seed despite a 17-0 mark. Ludwig and Mount Union's Phil Kyle, the fourth seed, each have victories over No. 5 Tyler Crawford of Cambria Heights, so this one could live up to the seeds here.
195
This weight is also dominated by wrestlers outside of my coverage area. Cambria Heights' Jake Beach is seeded second, but none of my other wrestlers cracked the top eight. Beach lost 5-2 top-seeded James Stodart of Moshannon Valley, who is 31-0 on the season. Beach also was beaten by third-seeded Nathan Shope of Huntingdon, who spent part of the season at 182. Fourth-seeded Trey English of West Branch is 21-14, more evidence that this isn't one of the tournament's stronger brackets.
220
It's not hard to pick a favorite here. If anyone other than John Rizzo wins, it would the biggest surprise of the tournament. The two-time state champion is lighter than he was he past two seasons, but he's just as dominating. He can earn his 150th career win in the second round on Friday. Moshannon Valley's Jacob Ludwig is 23-1, but he hasn't faced anyone like Rizzo. Penn Cambria's Seth McLendon was a solid heavyweight for most of the year before dropping to 220 at the end of the season. West Branch's Buzzy Maines is the fourth seed, but he's been beaten twice by fifth-seeded Kia House of Mount Union.

285
Juniata's Dylan Powell hasn't faced most of his competition here. Ben Mountan of United is a bit of a surprise as the second seed - not because he doesn't deserve it, but because he missed nearly a month of the season and doesn't really have a signature win. Claysburg-Kimmel's Titus Feathers and Mount Union's Nik Smith seem solid bets to finish in the top four.

  3. Thanks MDoak. It's a lot of work, but it's definitely nice to be appreciated.
I don't know of any live coverage - that's very hard to keep up with for a tournament like this - but I will be posting results on the blog as often as I can.
