Richland Coaches Duals

I covered this for The Tribune-Democrat. It wasn't a great event for teams in my coverage area, as Cambria Heights was my highest finisher at fourth place despite the fact that six of the 10 teams were from my coverage area.
I saw Kittanning as the favorite in Pool B, but would have picked Blairsville over Moshannon Valley in Pool A. The Black Knights edged the Bobcats on criteria to win their pool and showed that was no fluke by staying with Kittanning until the final bout. Blairsville, which has not had returning state place winner Scott Thompson in its lineup since Dec. 8, went 4-1 on the day. Thompson still has his arm in a cast.
Central Cambria lost 113-pounder Corey Lazration to a broken arm on Saturday.
Among the individual results that were being talked about:

  • Blairsville's Drew Doak needing overtime to beat Cambria Heights' Levi Niebauer, 3-1.
  • Blairsville's Noah Tarr beating Richland's Nick Naglic 8-3 in their dual.
  • Kittanning's Zac Croyle handing Somerset's Jacob Nickelson his first loss, 7-4, at 195. It was the second consecutive season Croyle beat Nickelson.
I'm sure there were some other key matches, but with my day being split over dual-meet tournaments, I probably missed some. Feel free to leave a comment if there is something that caught your eye.
I've linked to the NWCA box scores for each of the duals.

  2. It's updated now. CH beat Somerset 44-35. Joe Davis beat Jon Fabian 4-2 in best match. In fact, it's the only one that last 6 minutes.
