PARIAL UPDATE Thursday night recap 1-10-12

There was plenty of action on Thursday night. I went to Boswell for a WestPAC matchup. I'll try to post more box scores and analysis when possible.

Berlin Brothersvalley 55, North Star 13
195-Stu Trulick, BB, pinned Tony Strasiser, 5:11.
220-Anthony Collins, BB, pinned Kevin Horner, 2:55.

152-Blake Miller, BB, dec. Cory Fritch, 13-10.
160-Bryce Fochtman, BB, maj. dec. Jon Thomas, 14-0.
170-Austin Connor, NS, maj. dec. Trevor Moore, 8-0.
182-Shane Pepper, BB, pinned Thomas Miller, 2:55.
Records: Berlin Brothersvalley 5-0; North Star 4-2.

Analysis: You can read my story in The Tribune-Democrat here. Berlin looked very good. The score ended up being so lopsided because the Mountaineers turned what were close matches in the second or third periods into falls on four different occasions.
They also won two of the three highlight matches. North Star's Levi Albright beat Mitchell Walker in sudden victory at the WestPAC Tournament, but Walker definitely appeared to have the better gas tank on Thursday night, as he outscored Albright 6-2 over the final 3:17.
Joey Swank turned another close match into a pin at 120 pounds. He trailed Tayte Mostoller 3-1 in the second period, but got a takedown and a quick pin. It's the second time this week that Mostoller has looked strong in the early going only to get pinned.
Tevin Mostoller beat Braden Fochtman 11-7 at 138 pounds in an entertaining match. The big move was Mostoller's second-period lateral drop, which resulted in four points. It was 9-7 until Mostoller got a takedown in the closing seconds.

Chestnut Ridge 54, NBC 9

220-Dan Albright, CR, dec. Eric Grace, NB, 6-2.
285-Austin Buttry, CR, pinned Chase Ott, 2:36.
106-Aaron Burkett, CR, pinned Brandon Deffibaugh, 4:44.

120-Sam Shank, CR, pinned Jared Helsley, 4:45.
126-Derrick Claar, CR, pinned Judah Gouchnour, 2:52.
132-Mason Replogle, NB, dec. Trent Crouse, 4-2.
138-Damian Corle, NB, dec. Colby Hillegass, 7-4.
145-Drew Gartland, NB, dec. Jerimiah Zimmerman, 6-0.
152-Kyle Winegardner, CR, pinned Ty Bechtel, 5:32.
160-Connor Buttry, CR, dec. Lucas Kolinchak, 6-0.
170-Bradie Bollman, CR, pinned Dylan Shipley, 1:19.
182-Tyler Dibert, CR, tech. fall Jesse Claar, 17-1 (5:12).
195-Brad Winegardner, CR, maj. dec. Justin Brunner, 12-2.

Analysis: Chestnut Ridge rolled right through Northern Bedford except for the three middleweight matches. Todd Irwin covered it for the Altoona Mirror and you can read about it here. Ryan Spring of the Bedford Gazette also covered it and shot video of the big match between Mason Replogle and Trent Crouse. That was the big surprise for me. Replogle is finally at a weight more suited to him and seems to be flourishing. Crouse is up from last year and seems to be struggling to adjust. But, this is about the time he came on last year, too.

Odoyel says: 120 Sam Shank, CR pinned Jared Helsley 4:45, not really a surprise to me, but Helsley had a big lead in the match.
132 Mason Replogle, NBC dec. Trent Crouse 4-2; Crouse got the opening takedown, Replogle got reversals in the latter stages of period 1 and 2 and was in the top position at the end of each period.
