UPDATE - Tuesday night recap 1-8-13

I went to North Star's match at Conemaugh Township. I don't have time to do any analysis right now, but here's the story I wrote for The Tribune-Democrat as well as a ton of photos from the match.

North Star 43, Conemaugh Township 25
220-Kevin Horner, NS, dec. Zach Svencer, 7-0.
285-Levi Albright, NS, pinned Robbie Mills, 4:55.
106-Lenny Beeman, NS, forfeit.
113-James Shaffer, NS, dec. Aaron Griffith, 5-0.
120-Kody Ofsanko, CT, pinned Tayte Mostoller, 3:03.
126-Colton Gennett, NS, forfeit.
132-Matt Bridge, CT, dec. Michael Baker, 9-5.
138-Tevin Mostoller, NS, maj. dec. Casey Berchick, 12-0.
145-Tanner Cahill, CT, pinned Luke Lepley, 1:50.
152-Taylor Cahill, CT, maj. dec. Jon Thomas, 19-8.
160-Ryan Grosik, CT, pinned Austin Connor, 3:45.
170-Thomas Miller, NS, dec. Ryan Shifflett, 6-2.
182-Hunter Connor, NS, pinned Andrew Gowarty, 2:48.
195-Tony Strasiser, NS, pinned Steve Meyers, :47.
Records: North Star 4-1; Conemaugh Township 1-3.

Analysis: A couple of interesting matchups here, with the best being at 120. Tayte Mostoler looked to be in control of the match with a 4-0 lead in the second period, but Kody Ofsanko came up with a headlock (from the bottom position) and the pin. The other one that really caught my attention was at 160 pounds. Ryan Grosik is a very unconventional wrestler and was able to cradle Austin Connor and pin him.

I've also posted results that I've gotten, taken from emails to me and the results published in The Tribune-Democrat.

Bedford 40, Cambria Heights 27
138: Toby Brett, B, pinned Michael Zabinski, 2:21.
145: Austin Gill, CH, dec. Kenneth Collins, 6-5.
152: Tanner Williams, B, dec. Levi Niebauer, 3-1.
160: Travis Yahner, CH, pinned Cameron Sheeder, 1:25.
170: Caleb Grimes, B, dec. Dalton Waksmunski, 8-2.
182: Tyler Crawford, CH, pinned Robert Minnich, 1:16.
195: Anthony Mezzello, CH, pinned Daryl Stiffler, 3:07.
220: Chance Williams, B, dec. Dominic Novella, 4-1.
285: Aaron Gill, CH, pinned Nate Shoemaker, 7:48.
106: Johnathan Gabriel, B, pinned Mark Zabinski, 1:07.
113: Jabel Warren, B, forfeit
120: Kyle Mehle, B, maj. dec. Michael Dautlick, 8-0.
126: Ryan Easter, B, dec. Brad Thomas, 10-4.
132: Garrett Thomas, B, pinned Joseph Davis, 4:38.
Records: Bedford 7-2, Cambria Heights 4-2.

Analysis: A few good matchups here, with two of them coming at the end of the dual. Bedford was up 31-27 heading into those, with two of Cambria Heights' best wrestlers still to come. Problem was, the Bisons also had two of their best up as well. Ryan Easter beat Brad Thomas 10-4, who was a District 6 runner-up a year ago. At 132, Garrett Thomas pinned Joe Davis, who also was a D6 runner-up. The other highlight match came at 152, where Tanner Williams beat Levi Niebauer 3-1.

Penn Cambria 42, Ligonier Valley 36
152: Aaron Hogue, PC, pinned Nickolas Stahl, 0:55.
160: Jacob Driskel, PC, pinned Oliver Hall, 1:33.
170: Brendon Myers, PC, forfeit.
182: Dominick Shawley, LV, pinned Matt Wyland, 1:18.
195: Henry Schlosser, PC, forfeit.
220: Seth McLendon, PC, pinned Raymond Marsh, 0:49.
285: Jon Wilkinson, PC, pinned Kyler Kruel, 5:35.
106: Gordon Matson, LV, forfeit.
113: Ryan Biter, PC, forfeit.
120: Justin Patrick, LV, pinned Zach Stevens, 3:10.
126: Max Caldwell, LV, dec. Austin Farabaugh, 7-0.
132: Daniel Croyle, LV, forfeit.
138: Joseph Neiderhiser, LV, dec. Dominic Farabaugh, 8-5.
145: Derek Croyle, LV, pinned Michael Eckenrode, 1:50.
Records: Penn Cambria 8-3; Ligonier Valley 1-3.

Analysis: There was some big injury news on both sides of this dual. The good news was that Penn Cambria's Seth McLendon, who had been out since football season with leg injuries, returned to the mat and pinned Raymond Marsh at 220 pounds. The bad news came for Ligonier Valley, which was without Josh Patrick. I have been told that the Rutgers recruit has a knee injury that will keep him out a few weeks. Tough break for Patrick, who missed much of last year after he suffered an elbow injury, but still returned to place fifth in the state at 113 pounds. As far as the dual goes, it was all Penn Cambria in the upper weights and (almost) all Ligonier Valley in the lower weights.

Richland 46, Greater Johnstown 24
106-No match.
113-Tyler Bodenschatz, R, forfeit.
120-Adam George, R, forfeit.
126-Steven Rouser, R, forfeit.
132-Rodney Hall, GJ, pinned Nick Feransky 1:43.
138-Marcus McKool, R, forfeit.
145-Nick Naglic, R, forfeit.
152-William Gomez, GJ, dec. Hunter Cober 10-7.
160-Jesaiah Wilson, GJ, dec. Trevor Henry 7-2.
170-Nico Pecora, R, maj. dec. Richard White 14-1.
182-Bailey Piscatella, GJ, pinned Josh Haymaker 5:06.
195-Nate Lichvin, GJ, forfeit.
220-Killian Snopko, R, pinned Giovanni Feliciano 1:47.
285-Matt Moose, R, forfeit.
Records: Richland 1-3; Greater Johnstown 0-4.

Analysis: Less than half of the weights were actually contested, with Richland getting six forfeits, giving up one and no match at 106 pounds. Johnstown actually won half of the matches and had an 18-10 edge in contested matches.

Forest Hills 44, Somerset 30
170-Cody Law, FH, pinned Landon Lohr 4:16.
182–Zack Pinkas, FH, pinned Thomas Hocket :38.
195–Logan Eller, S, pinned Billy Kovalchik 3:25.
220–Jacob Nickelson, S, pinned Jarrett Bowen :50.
285-Matt Marra, S, forfeit.
106–Tanner McCall, FH, forfeit.
113–Jake Keiper, FH, tech fall Katherine Luteri 24-7 (6:00).
120–Triston Law, FH, dec. Damian Jano 11-5.
126-Sheldon Wagner, S, dec. Josh Gould 9-6.
132–Jon Fabian, S, dec. Ean Bopp 5-2.
138–Travis Templeton, FH, pinned Daniel Talley 1:41.
145–Mike Laue, S, forfeit.
152–Kris Knotts, FH, pinned Donald Kabina 2:30.
160–Kody Williams, S, pinned Jacob Colbert :34.
Records: Forest Hills 4-2; Somerset 2-5.

Analysis: The struggles continue for Somerset, which hasn't been the same this season after losing so many talented wrestlers from last year's squad. The Golden Eagles had a bad matchup right off the bat, with Landon Lohr, one of Somerset's better wrestlers, getting pinned by Cody Law, who is ranked No. 1 in the state. The other highlight match for me would be at 120, where Triston Law beat Damian Jano 11-5.

Westmont Hilltop 48, Central Cambria 22
170–Riley Schropp, WH, pinned Devyn Bowser 2:44.
182–Calvin Crow, CC, dec. Jake Buck 4-2.
195–Colin Barron, WH, pinned Tom Howell 3:43.
220–Don Shovestull, WH, pinned Jon Branick 1:11.
285-Christian Roman, WH, forfeit.

106–Ian Ostrowski, CC, dec. Drake Dorian 3-2.
113-Dan Yost, WH, pinned Corey Lazaration :17.
120-Tom Opdenhoff, CC, dec. Logan Blackburn 4-0.
126-Bradley Taylor, CC, maj. dec. Nick Mical 11-3.
132–Stephen Zipf, WH, pinned Coltin Makin 3:21.
138–Kevin Bednar, CC, dec. Mark Barbera 12-5.
145-Mike Walsh, WH, inj. def. Tanner Bilonick.
152–Seth Ray, WH, pinned Tyler Karlinsey :21.
160-Cordale Kline, CC, pinned Cameron Rock :57.
Records: Westmont Hilltop 3-1; Central Cambria 3-8.

Analysis: The big match here came at 120 pounds, as freshman Tommy Opdenhoff beat Logan Blackburn, the District 6-AAA champ a year ago. Opdenhoff had two takedowns for the only points of the match.

Meyersdale 52, HOPE for Hyndman 27
106-Tanner Clites, H, dec. Trevor Thomas, 2-0.
113-Billy Charlton, M, maj. dec. Robby Snyder, 9-0.
120-Brady McKenzie, M, pinned Jacob Musselman, 3:17.
126-Collin Day, M, forfeit.
132-Tanner Hetrick, pinned Chris Gibbner, 2:37.
138-Tylor Musselman, H, forfeit.
145-David Standon, M, forfeit.
152-Seth Deist, M, forfeit.
160-Timothy Hines, M, pinned Tyler Clites, 3:23
170-Billy Dunbar, M, pinned Richard Moskey, 3:17.
182-Gavin Berkley, M, pinned Steven Miller, 2:54.
195-Chris Merkel, H, forfeit.
220-James Bennett, H, forfeit.
285-Dylan Emerick, H, forfeit.

Analysis: Billy Dunbar's pin of Richard Moskey at 170 pounds is the result that jumps out at me from this match. Moskey won 27 matches last year and Dunbar was a regional qualifier. I would not have predicted a pin in this one. Meyersdale is struggling with injuries in its upper weights, and it will be tough for the Red Raiders to be at their best if they are giving up three forfeits there every week. That makes the fact that they hung with West Branch (40-32) and Bedford (44-23) at Everett's Bloody Run Duals last weekend.

Portage 51, Shade 18
106-Blake Sheehan, S, forfeit.
113-No match
120-Brady Ratosky, P, forfeit.
126-No match.
132-Nick Lutz, P, dec. Mike Manges, 6-4, SV.
138-Chase Fox, P, pinned Collin Jarosyk, :24.
145-Bryan Husar, P, pinned Matthew Naylor, 1:37.
152-Caleb Kephart, P, forfeit.
160-Frank Fordick, P, forfeit.
170-Cody Kephart, P, forfeit.
182-Paul Husar, P, forfeit.
195-Charles Litzinger, P, forfeit.
220-Trevor Brown, S, forfeit
285-Cody Edwards, S, forfeit..
Records: Portage 1-7; Shade 0-3.

Analysis: Not much to report here, as there were only three contested matches. The only one of interest was at 132 pounds, where Nick Lutz beat Mike Manges 6-4 in sudden victory.

United 42, Marion Center 31
106-Justin Hetrick, MC, forfeit.
113-David Wiles, MC, forfeit.
120-No match.
126-Warren Lowther, U, forfeit.
132-Isaac Stewart, MC, pinned Devon Walker, 1:55.
138-Brandon Heberling, MC, pinned Grant Ingalls, 3:42.
145-Tyler Mack, U, pinned Chad Repine, 1:02.
152-Brent Mack, U, pinned Brandon Prenni, 1:51.
160-Phil Crook, MC, maj. dec. Anthony Michaels, 13-0.
170-James Holley, MC, dec. Miles Stahl, 5-4.
182-Charles Hropovich, U, pinned Charlie Brewer, 2:55.
195-Tyler Oliver, U, pinned Jake Cribbs, :42.
220-Andrew Deitman, U, Collin Rudd, 1:25.
285-Benjamin Mountan, U, pinned Austyn Polinsky, 2:58.
Records: United 2-6; Marion Center 5-5.

Analysis: The Lions' domination in the upper weights proved to be the difference here in a dual that surprised me. I don't know much about either team, but the only thing that jumped out at me was James Holley's 5-4 decision of Miles Stahl at 170.
