Wednesday Night Recap 1-23-2013

Not a very heavy schedule, but some decent individual matches.

285-Austin Buttry, CR, pinned Ben Shaw, 1:48.
Records: Chestnut Ridge 19-1; Conemaugh Township 2-4.

Analysis (with an assist to Odoyel Rules): Not much of a surprise in the team score, but lots of lineup movement for Chestnut Ridge: Sam Shank down to 113, Derrick Claar down to 120, Trent Crouse down to 126, Tyler Dibert and Bradie Bollman swapping places. Also, heavyweight Robbie Mills was out of the lineup for Conemaugh Township. Not sure of why just yet.
As far as the results go, the Cahills – who are normally counted on for bonus points – had a couple of decisions. Tanner Cahill beat Jerimiah Zimmerman 9-2 at 145 while Taylor Cahill – who is 20-1 – only beat Kyle Winegardner 5-3 at 152. Ryan Grosik came up big for the Indians, pinning Conner Buttry, who has been difficult to score against.

Bedford 53, Richland 18
106-Jon Gabriel, B, forfeit.
113-Jake Warren, B, dec. Tyler Bodenschatz, 5-0.
120-Ryan Easter, B, tech. fall Adam George, 17-1 (3:53).
126-Stephen Rouser, R, dec. Kyle Mehle, 11-6.
132-Garrett Thomas, B, forfeit.
138-Nick Naglic, R, dec. Toby Brett, 9-3.
145-Kenny Collins, B, dec. Marcus McKool, 8-3.
152-Tanner Williams, B, pinned Hunter Cober, 3:16.
160-Caleb Grimes, B, pinned Trevor Henry, 1:54.
170-Nico Pecora, R, pinned Cameron Sheeder, :27.
182-Michael Brett, B, forfeit.
195-Daryl Stiffler, B, pinned Joshua Haymaker, 1:00.
220-Chance Williams, B, forfeit.
285-Matt Moose, R, pinned Nate Shoemaker, 1:06.
Records: Bedford 14-2; Richland 3-11.

Analysis: Another one where the dual-meet winner was never really in doubt, but there were some interesting developments. Ryan Easter is down to 120 pounds for the first time this season.
As far as the matches go, the biggest for me was Nick Naglic's 9-3 victory over Toby Brett at 138. Naglic had lost twice in four days – to Blairsville's Noah Tarr and Westmont's Mike Walsh – but this was a good victory to get him back on track.
Matt Moose also rebounded form his first loss, pinning Nate Shoemaker at heavyweight.

Berlin Brothersvalley 72, Portage 9
120-Joe Swank, BB, pinned Brady Ratosky, :55.
126-E.J. Custer, BB, pinned Nick Lutz, 1:15.
132-Chris Miller, BB, forfeit.
138-Chase Fox, P, dec. Braden Fochtman, BB, 8-4.
145-Eric Darr, BB, forfeit.
152-Blake Miller, BB, pinned Caleb Kephart, 1:53.
160-Bryce Fochtman, BB, pinned Frank Fordick, :37.
170-Cody Kephart, P, pinned Trevor Moore, 2:28.
182-Shane Pepper, BB, pinned Charles Litzinger, 3:33.
195-Stewart Trulick, BB, forfeit.
220-Mitchell Walker, BB, pinned Cameron Neel, 1:22.
285-Anthony Collins, BB, forfeit.
106-Emil Kiesnowski, BB, forfeit.
113-Tommy DeArmitt, BB, forfeit.
Records: Berlin Brothersvalley 10-1; Portage 2-12.

Analysis: There was one big surprise here and it came at 138 pounds. I guess it shouldn't be a huge surprise, as Chase Fox hung with Braden Fochtman in the WestPAC Tournament before losing 5-4. This time, Fox beat Fochtman 8-4.
